Exhibitor Spotlight: Premier Substructures

Part of the MBE Fabrications group that was founded in the 1970s, Premier Substructures was the latest addition to the group's portfolio in 2004 (Premier Pits is also part of the group) and is based in Lincolnshire.

Mel Burrell, who was born in Quadring where the company is based, founded the company and still runs it today overseeing a skilled team of more than 40 people.

With a focus on bespoke prefabricated mild steel substructures manufactured off-site, its sole aim is to make you more efficient and keep you safer on site.

Prefabricated steel is used as an alternative to traditional precast or in-situ concrete construction methods and is a suitable solution for vehicle maintenance pits, machine sumps, cellars, escalator pits, gym landing pits and underground car pits – to name but a few. The team believe that this method is not only able to save you time but also minimise the risk of leaks and cracks and there’s no need for operatives to enter an excavation.

Projects the team has worked on include: the construction of a new baggage handling facility at Heathrow Airport which came via a regular client who, as part of its tender return, wanted to use prefabricated steel to construct below-ground level; a time-pressured delivery of a below-ground substructure for a new factory for the London Taxi Company on behalf of Winvic Construction and watertight substructure installation for Floorspan’s filtration unit in its concrete facility.

Of working with Premier Substructures, Paul Welsh of Norwest Holt, said:

“We have worked with Premier Pits installing vehicle inspection pits for about 5 years. We approached Mel Burrell their MD to discuss the option of installing prefabrication below ground level for different uses. We were unaware that the group had a division which dealt with bespoke substructures, Premier Substructures. Their team engaged with my preconstruction team and gave us all the benefits of how they build below ground level. This process made us more competitive than the other main contractors at tender time, gave the end user a better product and made life easier for our on-site construction team.”
